Paulson Classic poker chips were one of the first home market Paulson chips to be released since Paulson was acquired by Gaming Partners International. These chips were released after the Paulson James Bond poker chips with a slight change to the mold. On the first "Paulson Chips" mold that the James Bond's use, the mold was designed with a large recessed inlay area (1 and 1/8" diameter) which is great! However, Paulson's restrictions on home market chips limited the actual inlay to only 7/8". So there was a large gap in between the beginning of the recessed area the actual inlay. It was a little strange looking. So on this line, Paulson figured the best thing to do to solve that problem, was to simply fill in the gap with more clay to shrink the inlay are down to 7/8 inch leaving the text and top hat and canes positioned in the same spot as the old mold. The result was not much better as it is still a little odd looking. Maybe not as much as the JBs but it just looks a little off. The face of the chips have a very light texture to them and the inlay area is completely smooth. The chips come with very sharp edges and vibrant colors. It is not necessary to oil these chips. One downside to these chips and all paulson chips is that because they are slightly softer in composition than other clay chips, they are known to transfer colors from chip to chip if you rub them against eachother (or shuffle them). Paulson chips are known to stack extremely well and these are no different. I'm sure you could stack these over 100 high if you wanted to (just don't do it in a game!).

All of these Paulson Classic chips feature multi-color edge spots using the same pattern (4 Double 1/4" spots or 4D14). All of the spots colors contrast nicely. All of the base colors are pretty much in the standard casino colors and there are 7 available denominations ranging from $1 to $1000. A fractional chip (such as 25 cents) would have been a nice addition to this set but did not happen. The inlays have a nice design to them although some the colors are a bit much. They feature the same basic design with a colored background matched to one of the edge spot colors on the chip with Top Hat and Cane images watermarked into the background. A large black denomination is in the middle of the inlay with the denomination text wrapped around the edge of the inlay. Again the design is nice, but on some colors like the $1000 chip, it looks a little strange.

Overall these are very nice chips that have that perfect Paulson sound, weight, and feel. The chips are a little difficult to shuffle straight out of the box because of the sharp edges but that will improve with use. Just watch the issues with color transfer. You may not want to shuffle these chips!
