Royal Classic clay poker chips are a new retail chip made by the Blue Chip Company and sold exclusively by Royal Poker Supply. It is made on the standard "flame" mold that Blue Chip uses for all of its non-casino orders. The chips have a heavier weight than other flame mold chips that I have reviewed. The chips average around 9 grams in weight versus 8.5 grams for other flame mold chips. The added weight gives them a better feel and sound. The sound is a little closer to a Paulson chip. The feel is a little chalky but that will improve with use and/or oiling these poker chips (which is a must). After oiling the colors and edge spot patterns look phenomenal and might be the best retail set out there if it were based soley upon this. There is a nice edge spot progression and great edge spot patterns, many which are unique including the $100 8V and the $5000 U shaped spots (also known as horseshoe spots). All of the base colors are pretty standard casino colors.
The inlay is pretty simple and classy. It has a parchment looking background to give it an aged effect with large denominations that match the base colors of the chips. There are also the denominations written out. Overall the inlay design should work well for many people, but it does have a dollar sign. So international buyers might have to think twice about it. The inlay has a textured linen finish and is well protected. Some of the chips will have the usual Blue Chip Company issues such as off center printing, off center inlays, and tiny white rings around the inlays. These are all fairly common for clay chips especially those from the Blue Chip Company.
Overall, at $.97/chip, these are a great deal for some nice clay poker chips. The themeless design should appeal to a lot of people. A 25 cent or 50 cent chip would make a nice addition to this set. Overall, these are great chips!
